Our Philosophy
· That children are aware and intelligent and already knowledgeable in many ways; that they have much to teach and a strong will to learn, and develop themselves in many arenas through play, experience, experiment and challenge. . That this learning takes place within and in connection with their family, community, themselves and their world; that they are here to give and experience as much joy as possible, while their bodies, self-confidence and understanding are nurtured.
· That love and high ideals, and idealism, around what is covered in our program, as well as in the way the centre operates externally and internally are our core principles. This includes discussions about ethics, lifestyle, acceptance of the imperfect, relationships with each child and their families, and among ourselves. |
· Giving children the chance to create their own curriculum, with real, frequent opportunities for expression and creativity, while providing rich experiences and training in the arts. Having artisans available to share their knowledge and skills, and to promote the child’s industry, craft and skills (i.e. diligence and desire and ability to be productive).
· Age appropriate understanding of the challenges and opportunities that living in this time and place bring and while making possible their intentions to make a difference in their world.
· An active outdoor program, in an outstanding natural environment, develops in the children a love of nature, a genuine environmental awareness and sense of stewardship, along with an exploration of the great mysteries of life and the universe. Balanced by indoor quiet times, and encouraging self-actualisation of the individual child and the whole group as a team.
· Sincerely embracing inclusiveness, diversity and multi-culturalism, including immersion world language and Auslan learning with the help/employment of local native speakers and differently-abled people. Actively welcoming a diversity of children into our program, having paid and low fee alternatives available to make this possible.
· Active connections with families, our local and global community and with all peoples and their cultures, especially fostering connections with and learning from people of our local Bundjalung Culture. Being inspiring to the local community and so garnering its support.
· Highly educated, united, well-supported and inspired staff.
· Starting small and growing slowly.
· Fostering parental involvement and nurturing their support and participation.
· Shorter than average hours allow educators ample time for review and planning, and is in general less stressful for young children. No child will be taken unwillingly from their parent/carer, and no parent/carer should leave an unhappy child.
· Expertly managed business side of the operation, eventually including extra use of the Centre out of Preschool hours, e.g. for parenting classes, OOSH care, yoga classes, etc. for extra fundraising, and community involvement.
· Being very well organised, with plenty of time for planning and review in all areas.
